This is one of the portraits between the windows at the back of the apse. Severus was a bishop of Ravenna in the 4th century, as is signified by the pallium around his neck. His sanctity is expressed by the crown above his head and by the abbreviation SCS¯, for Sanctus, "saint" or "holy."
